30 point hand in cribbage: fact or fiction? Posted by webmistress Mar 9 2010 11:02AM We received a letter from one of our fans describing 30-point hand. Please see image below: <img src=/images/users/1.gif> Any comments from GC community? -webmistress record start? Posted by cribking75 (VIP) Mar 15 2010 8:41AM Not really the hand, but imagine if both held 7766 and the 8 was cut. With some well placed 9's and 10's the dealer could be in 3rd street after the 1st hand!!! Say a 16 crib not out of the question would have dealer ahead 66-32. I'm sure there's got to be way to get more than 66 possibly with a couple 24's or a 24 and a 29 but you also have to look at the feasibilty. Nooo Posted by jethrotulll (VIP) Apr 10 2010 4:11AM Not a 30 pt hand at all. Only the count (pegging) is 30 pts in that example. 30-point hand ?? no Posted by loubelle57 (VIP) Jul 6 2010 7:54PM When you talk "30-point hand" it is the number of points you have in your hand including the "cut" card; not what you peg with your hand. But I must admit it is very nice to peg 30 points on top of the count of your hand. Love those hands !!! 73 Point Hand Posted by iPeg Jul 13 2010 11:53AM Imagine both dealer and non-dealer are dealt 3-3-4-4-J-J. Both discard the J-J and a 5 gets cut. The play is 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4. The dealer would peg 29 points, have 20 in the hand and 21 in the crib for a total of 70 points. Another possibility, not so likely would be non-dealer dealt 3-3-4-4-5-J and having no clue buries the 5-J. The dealer is dealt 3-3-4-4-5-5 and for some reason discards the two 5s. A five gets cut matching the discarded jack. The play is 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4 again. The dealer gets 29 peg points, has 20 in the hand and 29 in the crib, for a total of 78. This is the highest hand I can think of. Happend on a live tour Posted by PR_Lacey (VIP) Jul 31 2010 12:41PM I was at 81 mark my opp was at 116 so I was sure I was going to be skunk , but it was opp crib and I was pone. my hand 9 3 3 3 and cut was 9 so I though well at least I get to go over skunk line I started with my 9 opp played a K for 19 I put 3 opp put 3 for 25 count 2 points and I put my 3 for 28 count and 6 points was a go.my last 3 made it 31 for 12 point and 2 for 31. so I had scored 20 points just pegging when I count my hand for the next 20 points I won that game I was omg that had never happend to me wish I could had a camera to take a pic. MY opp was a very good friend and was last time we played b4 she passed . I will never forget that game Fiction Posted by jethrotulll (VIP) Nov 8 2010 3:09PM Counting the hand is not the same as scoring the hand. The count (pegging to 31) is separate. You cannot get more than 29 when scoring a hand. This is 30 points during play, not a 30 point hand! Posted by Moojus (VIP) Jan 12 2011 3:01PM The provided example shows the "play" of 30 points. If I do no consider the cut card, "count" of each hand is 8. The maximum hand count is 29. If you substitute 5s for the 7s and 2s (or As) for the 4s, then the dealer pegs 31. excellent Posted by KymB (VIP) Jan 15 2011 2:05AM end the end does it really matter.....we all love crib!!!!! fact or fiction! it is what it is...we can't change it !! love me Kim (kymb) |
