Cribbage Limeric Contest Posted by webmaster (moderator) May 13 2007 8:51PM We have received a player's request (SirJohndid) for a Cribbage Limeric Contest & thought that it might be a good idea. If we get 10 or more entries, we will give out prizes. The 1st entry is below. Let's get the Cribbage Limeric Contest going! Cribbage Limerick by: SirJohndid: -------------------------------- Once my rating was high; I won 10 games in a row. But soon I was saying goodbye, and Hi to a rating that's low. --------------------------------- Rhyme time Posted by cribking75 (VIP) May 14 2007 12:08PM Cribbage is so fun I could play it all day, playing tournaments or heads up making the opponent pay. Getting cards is great but you also need the cut, if you can't get them soon you will go into a rut. So keep the tutus away and the dreaded nineteen, but everyone gets those hands sometimes so don't be mean. Hopefully for everyone that plays they all have fun, and carry on the tradition by teaching it to your daughter or son. My Limerick Posted by Frank_Leroy (VIP) May 14 2007 3:57PM I searched the web for online games - I really wanted the best, I went to MSN Zone and Yahoo, but Game Colony is by far better than the rest. The games are fun and the graphics are great, The players are friendly and the TD's are first rate. Give it a try and you'll be hooked ... and I sure hope I win this limerick contest! Sea_Goddess :) Posted by Lacey (VIP) May 14 2007 6:41PM There once was a pegger named Moo Crib lessons he gave to more than a few This writer tried hard But could not get the card He was hoping would give him his due. Ma's attempt........ Posted by utahma (TD) May 15 2007 8:39AM There once was a TD named Ma whose blond jokes would make u hee haw Till one day she found a Limierick contest came round so she dedicated this one to Pa There once was a blonde who sighed, couldn't get a FIFTEEN if she tried she looked for a pair, to her surprise one was there, and out of excitement she cried. It wasnt enough for the win, She tried and tried again, She looked at her cards Decided it was too hard to count up her crib playing gin. Cribbage Limerick Contest Posted by SirJohndid May 15 2007 7:46PM Sir John Suckling who lived long ago, invented Cribbage, the game we all know. It's fun and exciting; and so I'm inviting. C'mon all you players, let's go! a limerick by Kymb Posted by KymB (VIP) May 16 2007 1:44AM I once knew a player named Honey who thought he could take all my Money but i proved him wrong by wearing a thong......Oh wait thats a different game entirely!! Cribbage Limerick Contest Posted by SirJohndid May 16 2007 7:57PM There once was a lady named Maime who lost in Cribbage game after game But she didn't give in, and went on to win many prizes (a fortune!),and fame. limerick contest Posted by KymB (VIP) May 16 2007 10:07PM I was once a wee lass who was taught crib by her two Dad's and an ex. They said my goal was to score 15-2,15-4,15-six. I've seen a few 28's which was great! but now its time to get a 29 and end this limerick Quick!! 10th reply Posted by KymB (VIP) May 17 2007 1:18AM we now have 9 limiricks in do we peg or give in to gin some say it is luck.... i say it is a go and so i will con't to play crib one more........ Bunnie's Turn Posted by BunieMa (TD) May 18 2007 11:54AM I TYPED IN GIN AND MONEY HERE I FOUND I COULD WIN OVER TO CRIBBAGE I HOPPED AND SOON FOUND MYSELF AT THE TOP I ASKED IF THEY NEEDED A TD NAMED BUNS TO HELP DISTRIBUTE OUT THE FUN I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN THEY LET ME IN NOW I HAVE FUN HOSTING FOR MY CRIBBAGE FRIENDS WHAT A GREAT PLACE FOR A BUNIE TO ROAM GC WILL ALWAYS BE MY HOME!!!! Nothing rhymes w/"Cribbage" (?) Posted by SirJohndid May 18 2007 7:39PM For those who don't like adding (keeping score), counting 15 two, 15 four, or more. It's nice it's all done for you; the dealing and pegging too. Have fun! With good luck your rating will soar! My rating is FRUSTrating! Posted by SirJohndid May 19 2007 4:53PM Sometimes you will need just the right card to score 29, but it's so hard. In the past you have seen that false count of 19. Now the one you needed you discard. Limerick competition Posted by shapechanger May 19 2007 10:01PM The Crib Playing Queen when annointed, Said, "I'm sure I won't be disappointed, 5,5,5 Jack (off suit), and 5 turnup to boot, Meant her score was a 29-pointer! Limerick competition Posted by shapechanger May 19 2007 10:04PM A crib playing gal from Down Under, Said, "Something smells bad" and no wonder, 'Cause she just double-skunked Some crib playing punk, His points on the ladder her plunder. for cribbage contest we need more limericks from cribbage players Posted by webmaster (moderator) May 23 2007 10:30AM For cribbage contest, we need more limericks from cribbage players and also need players' opinions on who deserves the prize! :) Ode to a 29 Posted by KymB (VIP) May 24 2007 10:23AM 2,4,6,8 I want a 28... 5,5,5,5, Jack That would give me a heart attack! But it would also be 29 and then I could end this rhyme. to pick a winner Posted by KymB (VIP) May 24 2007 10:30AM I like all the limericks posted by Kymb (LOL)!!!! I say that the TD's vote for the winner or we could have a cribbage playoff for Title of the best limerick and maybe GC could put up the money for the playoff. votes Posted by BunieMa (TD) May 26 2007 10:54PM I agree with kymb....TDS PICK THE PLAYERS FAVORITE LYRICS AND PLAYERS PICK TD FAVORITE LYRICS....SO FAR MY FAVORITE LYRIC IS KYMB ODE TO 29 There's a trick to writing a slick limeric. Posted by SirJohndid May 27 2007 2:30AM When composing a limeric it should rhyme, using the same number of beats (keeping time). But often one sees some do as they please So some Cribbage limerics end up with a line or lines that doesn't or don't rhyme at all and the timing is all off and so forth, making it too short or too long or otherwise too vague to understand, and sometimes with misspelled words or frazes that don't make sense; so all I can say is that it is a crime! My vote Posted by cribking75 (VIP) May 27 2007 6:32AM Not much TD participation but I like "Bunnie's turn". If I could throw a vote in for the players I like "a limerick by Kymb". I'm no poet but will try Posted by 1okaylady (TD) May 28 2007 5:36PM Crib, Crib, a fanatical game, The more you play, the more you win, The more you win, the better you feel, A 29 hand, now that's a the big deal. isnt a limerick different thana poem? Posted by utahma (TD) May 28 2007 6:23PM I agree with SirJohnDid.....a limerick is different than any poem that rhymes.......doesn't it follow a pattern? Just wondering.... Ma but dont get me wrong.... Posted by utahma (TD) May 28 2007 6:24PM clearly we have very talented poets amongst us hre at Game Colony - I love all the entries! Here's another Posted by Frank_Leroy (VIP) May 28 2007 9:18PM There was a crib player named Ronnie_Lee He likes to play at Game Colony All the girls love him because hes so sweet The kind of player we all hope to meet I wish all the players were as nice as he. Sea Goddess cribbage limeric Posted by honeyoil (VIP) May 29 2007 12:41AM I met a girl name kymb on a site callled gc i ask her if she would play crib with me.She asked how much I rep;lied a whole bunch she said if i lose you buy lunch i said it s to early how about brunch i said thats great i could use a good munch. Posted on behalf of SirJohndid Posted by webmaster (moderator) May 29 2007 7:44AM Definition of "Limerick". My dictionary defines "Limerick" as a five-lined nonsense verse rhyming aabba. The first, second and fifth lines have three feet and the third and fourth lines have two feet. As close as I can interpret "feet" in this context is that it is a unit of length (measurement, metric), applying it so as to have the same number of "beats" per respective lines as in say Poe's poem (not a limerick-lol) "The Raven", with 8 "beats" per line: Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary. Also the first, second and fifth line endings rhyme as do the endings of the third and fourth lines (but with different rhymes than the first, second and fifth lines.) Anyway, that's my interpretation of how a limeric is to be constructed. My first entry (when I was "clueless") did not obey above mmmm "rules"-? My only salvation is that it rhymes! Also my latest entry of a "limerick" was intentionally rule-defying as a spoof of some entries I've seen. So, hopefully this will inform and inspire some "new blood" here. C'mon. You can do it! -SirJohndid What's the difference Posted by cribking75 (VIP) May 29 2007 2:36PM I know it's a limerick contest, but who cares if someone wants to have fun with a different kind of poetry. You guys are getting extremely techinical on something that should be fun. It's not right to ask to be creative and then limit the creativity. Who cares if it's a limerick, haiku, concrete, couplet, ballad, alphabet, or acrostic poem. Cribbage is the best game here. Ratings mean so much to some, nothing to me I love to play in the tournaments Bad 19's stay away Be a friend and cut me a five A certain player I never saw anywhere Game colony is the best site Everyone is nice and has fun. My simple thoughts on time at Game Colony...Diamund Posted by mikka12 (VIP) May 29 2007 6:32PM I was looking for a place to play I found Game colony one day I found great people at the site I even found a Mr. Right So I can live, love, laugh and have fun And meet the challenges from everyone. Thank you to all here that makes this site a family.....Pat One more time.............. Posted by mikka12 (VIP) May 29 2007 9:26PM Cribbage is a game of fun At game colony you get a good run My dream is a twenty nine I would like it one time And will continue until it's done.............. Limeric definition Posted by SirJohndid Jun 1 2007 1:59AM If acceptable, I would like to offer the final (unless questioned)self-defense of the definition of a limeric: The title of the contest is "Limeric Contest"; and as a rose is a rose is a rose, in baseball the pitcher doesn't pitch a horseshoe; and a limeric is a limeric is a limeric. I don't mean to be picky, but it is as it is (at least for me). The prime creativity, and, sure, brain-wracking work (perhaps) lies in the concoction of a limeric as such. But if deviations from the definition is acceptable by the powers that be, then fine --- the house rules; but I think then the title of the contest should be Cribbage Muses or whatever, rhyming or not. I rest my case and hide my "face". Oh my! Another one from SirJohndid. Posted by SirJohndid Jun 1 2007 2:04AM Oh Lord! It is just as I feared. Some opponents I play are weird. One played games so fast I couldn't get past He won in 3 hands......so it appeared! Whoops! Posted by SirJohndid Jun 1 2007 4:35AM Now I fouled up.. Take out the word "so" in my latest limeric. Naughty boy! So So Posted by SirJohndid Jun 1 2007 7:25PM Re my latest: That's the 2nd "so". SEWoR SO what a button on your underpants Posted by KymB (VIP) Jun 1 2007 11:04PM WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT A SO.....I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN.
