the difference between main hall and tourneys Posted by utahma (TD) Dec 10 2006 4:55PM I just finished my second tourney this week, where I was force to "out" (aka disqualify) a newbie for noncompliance of tourney room rules.......so I want to be sure we clarify the difference when you sign up for a tourney. In Main Hall, you can join or create tables at your own free will, play whatever settings you wish, for any amt of tix you wish. When you sign up for tournament play you have to understand that this is more STRUCTURED play, you will have a moderator (aka TD or Tournament Director) to direct you in your matches and who will advance winners in the brackets. There ARE rules in tournament play, and each TD will list these rules sometime between 5 till the hour and the tournament's designated start time ON the hour. If you are new, I IMPLORE you to please show up a few minutes early and please pay attention to these rules! We as TDs are there to HELP, to answer questions you may have or show you the ropes, so to speak. It is a really tough decision to have to "out" a player, for whatever reason, and it personally breaks MY heart having to out a newbie from their first try at tournaments. That being said, I have to say that the two newbies I have been forced to out must not have had any understanding of the tourney concept - they continued to set tables and disregard my requests for them to join us and close table and so on and so forth. Not only a headache for me, but both tourneys have been delayed over the start time, by 4 or 5 minutes - that is NOT fair to other players. Being new isn't a bad thing - in fact I encourage you to join tourney play if you haven't already. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be ready to comply with tourney room rules and please communicate with your tournament director, especially if you do not understand. Just speak up and let us know if there is a problem or something you may not understand. I hope nobody thinks I'm the big bad meanie, I had another displeased player who did not read my rules that I run EVERY tourney and was outed for failure to respond and let me know they were there and not "away" as they were marked. When this happens, please do not blame ME for following the ruels that have been set up in my tourney room to help ALL players have a good time. Accept the fact that you weren't paying attention and get over it - please don't sit there and argue with us.........rules are rules....and we try to be consistent with each and every player in each and every tourney. It boils down to the fact that some days aren't going to run smoothly, we are all human. But your TDs and these rules are here to make things run a lot smoother, so please help us to help you have a good time, k? Love u and see u at tourney time, Ma I couldn't have SAID it better!!! Posted by 1okaylady (TD) Dec 10 2006 7:01PM We welcome NEW tourney players.....Tourneys are a lot of fun....you really find the comedians...but they are also serious in the way that everyone is playing for $$....Just like in real life, if you are new, come in and take a seat and let the TD know that you are a new player and perhaps may need some assistance....BUT Tourney room tables are set just the same as in the main hall.,,, and if you have set a table there you now know how......2 THINGS IN TOURNEY PLAY.....NEVER SET YOUR TABLE TO LADDER AND ALWAYS KEEP THE RATED BOX CHECKED.........THE PAIRINGS ARE GIVEN OUT BY THE TD....and the 1st person in the pair will set the table.......just wait for direction......PLEASE WE ARE ALL HERE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND MAYBE WIN SOME TIX TOOOOOOOOOO. Good luck to each and everyone of you... when i was a newbie....... Posted by Mrs_Incredible_1970 (VIP) Dec 11 2006 8:38PM i remember reading each and every word of the rules in my first tourney, cause i had no idea what to expect. now of course i don't bother - in know em by heart, but its hard to believe that newbies wouldnt want to KNOW whats going on - give Ma a break and read the rules wouldya.... |
