Rules changed?? Posted by etcsssjm Aug 2 2006 6:12PM I haven't played cribbage in quite a number of years. While surfing the net I came across the ACC?.org site and began reading the rules. I seem to remember different rules in regards to the deal among other things. When my Dad taught me the game he said you never dealt one at a time, it was either 2 or 3 at a time. Also, you never offered the cut to your opponent, or you lost the deal. Another change was that a flush in the crib only counted if it matched the card turned up after the deal. I was just curious if the rules changed to standardize play once there was an official governing body. Have I been playing incorrectly for all those years? Most people in the navy played it that way as well. Regardless, I look forward to playing online. If the start card is the same suit as well, the flush is worth 5 points. There is no score for having 3 hand cards and the start all the same suit. Note also that there is no score for flush during the play - it only counts in the show." * Regarding face-to-face shuffles, please refer to ACC site rules. At GameColony.com, online random shuffles are done by securely firewalled cribbage server. There's no need for a 'cut' online -- your online opponents won't be able to use any specially marked cards or hide any lucky ace in their sleeves or see any of the cards in your hand. The way I was taught was different than you were taught. You always dealt one. However, the pone/nondealer could just 'knock' as opposed to cut the cards. The Rules at Game Colony seem to match the rules as I was taught. The American Cribbage Congress (ACC), the largest organization for the promotion of cribbage, has published standardized rules. Dealing 1 at a time: There are several games I know how to play by dealing multiple cards at a time, but cribbage is not one of them. Hoyles has them dealt one at a time for cribbage. Cutting, well it is not optional in ACC, it is a must and clearly defined in ACC rules. I am not the historian for ACC but the version told me was good enough for me, therefore I play that way. Taken some time to have my family adjust to cutting. |
