................and even I have had a 28 hand Posted by beejaysus (VIP) Jul 29 2006 11:42AM Playing today 29th July I had the good fortune to be dealt 4 fives and a ten card was turned up, my first 28 on game colony. I have joined the club:) wtg Posted by Gr8 (TD) Jul 29 2006 2:16PM yes wtg my friend congrats Gr8 td Frequency of 28-hands online, etc. Posted by webmaster (moderator) Jul 29 2006 11:39PM When playing online cribbage, some players may get an impression that 28 pts hands occur with greater frequency than in land-based play. Playing online cribbage, however, is much faster than playing land-based cribbage. It has been measured that on average the online games are up to 5-7 times faster than similar land-based games. Hence, the frequency of high-scoring hands that may seem high, has to be measured not time-wise, but should be averaged according to a number of hands played. frequency Posted by beejaysus (VIP) Jul 30 2006 5:38AM Good point webmaster, I normally play, speed wise, many more games per hour on line than I do using a pack of cards. The time taken for shuffling, dealing pegging the points etc etc does slow the "real" game down quite considerably, so it stands to reason that 28 hands would appear more often time wise, but not more frequently per number of games played. fast games Posted by cribking75 (VIP) Jul 30 2006 5:54AM I seriously doubt the game is 5-7 times faster. I might go with twice as fast at the most. Live games usually take 10-15 minutes and a fast online game may take 7 minutes. You're probably twice as likely to get those elusive hands. from webmaster the "up to 5-7 times faster" measurement actually came from comparing online and land-based gin rummy. But the same measurement should hold for crib as well: with auto-shuffling, point-and-click card movements, and especially with instant auto-counting (without the need to recount and to argue), fast online crib players can finish the game in less than 4 min... In the face-to-face games, many less experienced players have trouble with fast counting. Because of faster online games and especially because of far less formal atmosphere than in face-to-face games, on average, online players play many times more games online than they would play while face-to-face e.g., daily. And few players would even notice it :) Game timing Posted by beejaysus (VIP) Jul 31 2006 9:31AM I play 7 games of 61 hole 5 card crib in my local league and that can take anything from 30 minutes to one and a half hours to play. 61 hole 5 card is much faster than 121 hole 6 card. I am sure if we played the latter it would take nearly two hours to complete the same number of games. I would not think that 5 to 7 times faster is far off the mark. Regards Geoff Congrats on Your 28 Hand Posted by PV544_62 (TD) Aug 1 2006 5:50PM Geoff, Hats off to you on your 28 Hand!
