No. 1 in the Ladder Games. Posted by BlueSun (VIP) Aug 6 2006 4:41PM Game Colony: I have a suggestion. It is VERY frustrating when you are number 2 or 3 on the ladder and the number 1 or 2 player will not play you. Part of it may be that players are in different time zones and play at different times. However, I have seen number 1 players who just refuse to play some players (like me). The challenges help, but once the number 1 ladder has three challenges, others cannot challenge. For example, the number 1 ladder has three outstanding challenges now, and I am number two but can't issue the number 1 ladder player a challenge. So, I am stuck unless and until the number 1 ladder player decides to play me. Now, I think a way to keep the number 1 ladder player from NOT playing certain players is as follows. After any player has won 25 ladder games, then just move them up one rung in the ladder. A great example is this. I am number 2 in the ladder. I win 25 ladder games, and I would be automatically moved up a rung to number 1 and the number 1 player would move down a rung to number 2. I think that this would make the ladder MUCH FAIRER. It also would eliminate the number 1 ladder player refusing to play certain players. Please consider this suggestion. Also, what do you other players think about this??? I LOVE to play canasta, but I get realllllllllllllllllllllllly frustrated when players higher than me on the ladder simply refuse to play me. I think other players feel the same. Do you??? BlueSun different ways to move up the ladder Posted by webmaster (moderator) Aug 7 2006 11:59AM Thanks for the suggestion :) Currently there are no plans to make changes to the ladder system, as the current system is very versatile. For example, there is more than one way to climb to the top of the ladder. You move up when you win against a higher ranked player. When you win a multi-player tournament, you go up a rung as well. When you earn 30 ladder points, you move up one step on the ladder. Here is more info on ladder points: A player earns 1 Ladder Point for participating in any Ladder Tournament A player earns 1 Ladder Point for every Ladder Mini-Tourney with entry fee 5 $Tickets or more 30 Ladder Points are converted to 1 Ladder rung advancement (Ladder Step-Up) No. 1 in the Ladder Posted by BlueSun (VIP) Aug 7 2006 12:58PM I agree that the ladder is currently versatile, however it is also static versus dynamic. Top ladder players FREQUENTLY will NOT play players immediately beneath them. And, again, once the top ladder player has 3 challenges other players can't issue that player a challenge. My suggestion would encourage players to play ladder games more often because after the designated ladder wins it would give them another opportunity to move up the ladder. This would make the ladder more dynamic. Seriously, it is VERY FRUSTRATING when the top ladder players WILL NOT play you!!! I KNOW other players have experienced the same thing. Other canasta players what do you think??? Thank you BlueSun ladder dynamics Posted by webmaster (moderator) Aug 7 2006 1:17PM Ladder is a balanced system of penalties and rewards. I covered the rewards in my previous response. There is no reason to introduce another reward. Check other GC ladders as well. Many gin and backgammon players, for example, use ladder points to their advantage. Play many 5 ticket games and enter as many multi-player tourneys as you can and those ladder points will help you move up. The main penalty is rank reduction for Top Ten inactivity. So if #1 player refuses to play #2 player for more then 6 days, then the former is going to drop two spots to #3 and the latter can move up to a much coveted #1 spot. ..... Posted by mommyslittlegirls (VIP) Aug 10 2006 7:27AM i agree with web for the most part, and i have got to number 1 on this system in canasta. the only thing i think that could be done for canasta is to drop the ticket game price for ladder games from $5 to 2 or 3. i have very seldom seen anyone play 5 tix games in canasta but people are willing to play for 2 or 3.....just a suggestion Interesting Posted by MightBeTime_xyi (VIP) Aug 10 2006 10:29AM I play also in backgammon and this system works great there. Many players earn enough ladder pts to advance a rung and it is a very useful tool near the end of the month and it makes a difference. When yr number one u can accumulate the ladder pts for when u are dropped since u can't advance any further. Entering all the canasta tourneys will probably get u the extra ladder point u can use later. In canasta we don't play for 5 tix a match so those points don't increase. So we can't earn ladder pts and since canasta is treated like every other game tournaments are the only other way to get ladder pts. Hopefully we get enough tournaments to earn ladder pts but that means better tournouts and maybe the black players can turn blue and join the ranks and they will put on more tournaments. Regarding challenges. A #1 player doesn't have to play everyday and with vacation now many days are missed but when on hopefully they will play and the changes make for interesting ladder results. I must commend makulitr8 on playing everyone all the time and hopefully others will do the same. In case I get there, it will only be temporary as I am on vacation 20-26th or so unless where I go has a computer and i have the time--lol). 3 challenges are plenty if the #1 player plays regularly.
