The top ten players get bonus tickets on the first of every month, but top ten players get nothing the rest of the month. You can be number 1 for 29 straight days, and then get bumped the last day of the month and get nothing. There has to be a solution for this. Here is one I came up with and I would love to hear any thoughts on this, especially from the webbies....
How about picking a certain time of day, (2am for example). At that time, EVERY night, the number 1 player gets 10 'ladder points', the number 2 player gets 9 'ladder points', and so on down the list until the number 10 player gets 1 'ladder point'. At 2 am on the first day of the month, right after that day's points are awarded, the bonus tickets would be paid based on points, not the CURRENT rank.
Players sit back and don't put any effort into the ladder until about the 25th or so of each month. It just doesn't pay to try any other time. I think this rule would change that and there would actually be ladder competition every day, all month long. And every rung will make a difference... every day.
Please share your thoughts.

I agree with you to a point about the points earned during the month. However, currently I am #2 ladder, but and kirk is #1, but I work all day, and I don't have a chance to win a tournament or play kirk to get ahead in ladder. So by giving the ladder positions points, ultimately means that you are rewarding the person who can be online enough to stay ahead and keep their position, while others who work, or are on different time zones struggle just to stay in the top ten.
Luckily, I am online enough to keep my position in ladder, but some people will lose their ladder positon at 2 0 or 30 am because they are sleeping or at work, and may recieve the 'points' that day, but the next day they will be lower in ladder.
It is a great idea to give the ladder postions a reward during the month, but a more universal system has to be achieved. Kirk and I have been going back and forth for awhile, because he can win tournaments that I am unable to play in, and I can't beat him in regular ladder games (sorry kirk, you're just too good lol). But some kind of method can be achieved somehow.

The time was just an example. Maybe the time could be during more of a 'prime time' period. Like 9pm for example. I don't think the time matters much. Considering there are players here from all over the world, you will never find a time to suit everyone. But the current system of rewarding ladder players based on their rung only ONCE during the month needs to be changed in my opinion.

According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
