Am i thick?

Can someone explain to me please why it is that sometimes i can take the top card of the discard pile to a meld, yet at other times (in the same game) i cannot. Is there a set of criteria that have to be met before this can be done or is it a random choice generated by Gamecolony?
Hope you can help

It always depends on your setting, but if the problem is in the same game apparently the setting is for two naturals needed to take the top card and the pile. If this is the case then you would not be able to take the top card if you don't have two naturals in hand.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Pegasus. I have just played a game where my opponent was able to pick up from the pile straight to a meld without having to put 2 naturals down as well. Would this be the case with the settings that you have just described?

Yes myk_allen. In this scenario apparently that top box was checked. In which case the top card can go to a melded canasta. I never play that one if I can help it, but some do, so if you joined a game apparently that top box was checked.
Enjoy your games Nothing like a good game of canasta is there?

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
