Hey can anyone tell me how the ranking system works? How many games do you have to win to move up on the ranking system ?

G'Day mate. This was not answered right away because we are unclear which ranking system you are talking about? Are you talking about the Ladder or Ratings Points? If you are talking about Ratings here is the definition: The rating system follows the published official formulas of USCF (United States Chess Federation) ELO calculation. If there is a significant difference in ratings, and the higher rated person wins, ratings may not change at all. New players start with the rating of 1400. There is a special formula for the first 20 games for provisional rating calculation. Provisional players can ramp up their rating faster. If you win against a provisional player, you may not see any increase in rating. If you were talking about ladder points, please view the ladder button for rules and monthly payouts in each game. Hope that helps mate!

Here is the definition of the ladder program:
The highest ranked player holds the #1 spot. A player with #2 ranking is ranked one level below the #1 player. The goal is to "climb" the Ladder as high as you can.
Note: Ladder ranking is NOT your rating -- it is a completely separate ranking system:
When you win against a higher ranked player, your rank goes up half the way between their rank and your former rank If you lose to a player who is ranked more than one level below you, your rank will NOT change If you lose to a player who is ranked directly below you, your ranks will switch places If you lose to a player who is ranked above you, your rank will not go down at all When other players beat people above you and jump over you in rank you will slide down (there are also special rules for players ranked in the Top Twenty)

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
