Is it me or are there many many over 2000 ratings? According to my stats, I have very nearly a 54% win ratio and cannot get anywhere near 2000 rating and when you click on their's, their win ratio is sometimes only around 50%. I know ratings are a somewhat dubious way of measuring performance in crib, but how do they get their ratings so high?

Ratings are not a somewhat dubious way of indicating the skill level of players. They are an extremely dubious way of indicating skill level. Only the players that refuse to play anyone with lower ratings can consistently move up. The rating system is based upon the Elo system, which works well for strictly skill based games such as chess, but is misapplied to games with a large random chance factor such as cribbage.

Why does the OP place such high regard to ratings? He or she seems to be the only one that cares, everyone else is smart enough to know they are nothing more than unimportant & irrelevant.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
